Associated British Ports (ABP) are recruiting for a dedicated Marine Maintenance Technician/Relief Coxswain to join our Marine Services team in South Wales. This is a varied and rewarding role, combining hands-on engineering maintenance with operational support as a relief coxswain for our pilot cutters in Swansea and Barry.  The role is Monday – Friday with cover required every other weekend.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Marine Engineering Supervisor with the day-to-day maintenance of South Wales Pilot Cutters.
  • Monitor and action defects, ensuring timely resolution and closure.
  • Support the assignment of plant, labour, and materials, and maintain stocks and spares.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on marine engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external contractors to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities using Mainsaver.
  • Ensure all work complies with Health and Safety legislation and company policies.
  • Act as a relief coxswain, including being on call every other weekend to support the shipping programme.
  • Exercise command of a pilot launch, ensuring readiness for service and the safe transfer of pilots and authorised persons.
  • Undertake scheduled inspections, emergency preparedness drills, and resilience procedures.

Essential:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in marine maintenance and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of marine engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • ENG1/ML5 Medical and completion of mandatory STCW Training (including PST and FFPT).
  • Yachtmaster Offshore with Commercial Endorsement.
  • VHF Licence.
  • Full UK driving licence.
