ABP is committed to be Net Zero from our own operations by 2040, but that’s just the beginning of our voyage.
By working together with our colleagues, customers and communities, we’re in a unique position to play a pivotal role in delivering a more sustainable UK, creating a positive environmental impact across our Sustainable Ports, through these strategy themes.

We’re investing over £600m in new green equipment, ways of working and colleague training, to ensure a brighter, cleaner and more sustainable future for all.
Values you can trust

Openness & Honesty

Keep customers, colleagues and stakeholders informed. Question poor levels of operation and service. Speak up and share information. Keep an open door.

Making a Difference

Know your customer. Follow best practice. Plan ahead and deliver to the plan. Have a “can do” attitude. Own and resolve issues.

Exceeding Expectations

Help others, even though it is not your job. Always look for ways to be better. Try something new and see challenges as opportunities. Do more than was asked.

Teamwork & Respect

Always be courteous, helpful and respectful. Trust our colleagues. Celebrate as a team. Look out for each other. Realise danger and stop. Take responsibility.

Creating a great, safe place to work

We firmly believe that a safe operation is the only way to run our business. That is why we are committed to a proactive safety culture, always aiming to achieve zero accidents within an environment of good health and in promoting wellbeing for everyone.

At its core, Beyond Zero is about every member of the ABP team going home safe and well at the end of every shift.

An integral part of this our ‘Beyond Zero’ programme, covering an extended range of safety culture and leadership courses, emphasizing not just employees’ physical but also mental health.

ABP is the first UK port operator to launch a range of exclusive women’s personal protective equipment.

Diversity and inclusion at ABP

At ABP, we are committed to building a more inclusive, diverse and open working community, so you can be yourself at work every day.

We have company-wide Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) networks which aim to provide a safe space for colleagues to support each other and raise awareness around issues which affect them at work.

These include a Disability and Mental Health network, Gender network, Faith, Religion and Ethnicity network and a LGBTQ+ network.

Our goal is to make the networks as inclusive and open as possible and we offer a host of D&I resources made readily available at ABP.

As part of our communication calendar, we celebrate D&I awareness days throughout the year to help build our colleagues knowledge important topics.

Women in Maritime

Since we helped launch the Women in Maritime Charter in collaboration with Maritime UK in September 2018, we have played a pioneering role in promoting diversity in our industry.

We’re working hard to improve gender parity in our industry by supporting initiatives such as Women in Manufacturing and the Women in Maritime Taskforce.

ABP was the first UK port operator to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) designed especially for women. The move represented a great step in ABP’s efforts to further the role of women in maritime, while further improving safety standards and choice for everyone.

In 2020, ABP’s ports were recognised by Maritime UK’s Diversity in Maritime Charter for their success in implementing initiatives to attract a more diverse workforce.

“It is amazing to be a part of an organisation like ABP that has a direct role to play in this country moving towards a greener economy, with greater collaboration and more opportunities for all.”

Katie Pearce, Commercial Management Graduate
