Job Title: Project Engineer (Civil)

Salary: Competitive Salary + Excellent Benefits

Location: Southampton

 

We are recruiting for a Civil Project Engineer to ensure engineering works are delivered in a safe, timely and cost effective manner, whilst maintaining a best practice culture for all works.  The role forms part of a small team that is responsible for the delivery of contracted maintenance works, new construction works, third party construction works, development of scheme proposals and providing technical support to the regional team in supporting the company’s ongoing five year plan.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Construction (or equivalent).
  • Minimum five years’ experience in design or implementation of Engineering Projects
  • H&S and Environmental experience in engineering projects.
  • Experience in Project management of engineering works.
  • Based in Southampton, but willing to travel occasionally as required to other ports
  • PC Literate with proficient experience in Microsoft suite of software
  • Good communication skills and team working skills.
  • Driven, enthusiastic and confident
  • Full driving license.

 

Desirable requirements

  • Civil or Structural design experience
  • Good knowledge of CDM
  • Chartered membership in Building, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Construction.
  • Experience of current AutoCAD drawing packages.
  • An awareness and understanding of processes, procedures and policies associated with project management of contractors.
  • Willing to travel to undergo training as required.
  • Port experience is desirable, but not essential

 

 

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Delivery of specific projects within Capital investment programme from concept to completion and to time, budget and quality in a safe and sustainable way.
  • Compliance with ABP processes including Project process, Procurement, Control of Contractors, Health and Safety and CDM
  • Overcoming engineering challenges and developing long term solutions for a variety of engineering applications in line with operational and budgetary constraints.
  • Undertakes duties of Principal Designer in accordance with the CDM Regulations 2015
  • Liaises with other ABP Departments, customers, Government Agencies and Planning Authorities.
  • Identify and prepare cost estimates for present and future engineering works as necessary including the management of capital expenditure budgets.
  • Produce tender documentation and undertake contract administration for engineering works in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain pace with all safety regulations and new technical innovations to provide advice and support to line managers. 
  • Work with others to plan work to ensure the most efficient and cost effective way to deliver projects within an operational environment
  • Regularly audits to ensure compliance to ABP policies
  • Meet with port users and potential customers to discuss engineering matters and/or other items of common interest.
  • Identify and manage environmental matters as necessary.
