We are looking for a Port Security Officer to join us in our Southampton Port (SGL Marchwood) to ensure the port is kept secured with access restricted to authorised people, vehicles, and cargo only by always providing high visibility and overt presence.

 

You will need to be comfortable to go through BPPS clearance and go through security vetting. 

 

Accountabilities

  • Ensure that only authorised persons and vehicles are given access to the port.
  • Patrol the port areas and always maintain a high profile and overt security presence.
  • Manage visitors to the site and port area.
  • Ensure all visitors receive and understand the visitor’s belief.
  • Issue permits and passes in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist in investigations of security breaches.
  • Provide written statements and reports in the event of an incident in the port.
  • Operate CCTV systems in accordance with training and guidelines.
  • Search vehicles and people’s possessions as required.
  • Conduct building checks and ensure access to the port and its infrastructure is secured during out of hours.
  • Manage access to Port Working Areas during Dangerous Goods movements.
  • Provide first response first aid in accordance with training and relevant guidelines.
  • Provide administrative support in an incident command room as required.
  • Maintain a good understanding of relevant security threats.
  • Complete all relevant documentation accurately and in accordance with any relevant policy.
  • Comply with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.

 

Skills, experiences, qualifications, and competencies

Essential

  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a small team.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to follow instructions and seek clarification where applicable.
  • Able to identify potential risks and hazards and take appropriate action.
  • Capable of absorbing information quickly.
  • Able to interpret security plans etc. and carry out the required actions/tasks.
  • Able and prepared to gain relevant UK Government Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to work a 24/7/365 shift pattern, consisting of 12-hour shifts, which will include unsocial hours.

Ideal

  • Understanding of port and maritime security.
  • Security/ Military/MoD experience.
  • Hold a full, clean driving licence.

Your shift pattern will involve days and nights and will be an average of 42 hours per week.
