Are you looking to apply your understanding of oceanography and sediment dynamics to the design and licensing of nearshore and offshore developments?

Are you wanting to be involved in marine renewable energy and industrial decarbonisation, playing a role in the country’s path to Net Zero?

Marine consultancy and survey company, ABPmer, is currently recruiting a Marine and Coastal Processes Specialist who is confident in applying their technical understanding to the quantification and assessment of morphological and hydrodynamic changes, sediment transport and wave analysis.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to broaden the application of their oceanographic knowledge and immerse themselves in marine work.

About the role

Working with a team of fellow coastal and oceanographic specialists, you will be analysing and interpreting marine and coastal data to inform the design and consent of offshore wind and tidal power projects, port and coastal developments (including coastal defences) and other marine and coastal industries in the UK and overseas.

You will be applying your skills to produce a wide range of reports supporting projects at various stages in their lifecycles, from pre-feasibility through to licensing and post consent monitoring.  You will be producing analyses for environmental assessments (coastal, estuary and offshore) and design support services (seabed mobility, scour, extreme wave and water level analysis etc).

Your role will include also client engagement and project management. When not applying your knowledge and understanding in project delivery, you may be contributing to, or leading tenders or working on internal research projects.

This role might be right for you if you have

  • A degree (and preferred, postgraduate degree) in a relevant discipline and a background in physical oceanography
  • Three to seven years’ relevant marine experience in a consultancy, developer organisation or regulatory background
  • A good understanding of coastal, estuarine and shelf sea oceanographic processes
  • Skilled in collating and interpreting marine and coastal data
  • Proficient in the analysis and presentation of physical process data including use of GIS, MATLAB or similar programming/scripting
  • Excellent report writing, presentation and communication skills
  • Competent project manager
  • Familiarity in numerical modelling of wave, hydrodynamic or sediment transport (preferable)

As well as a generous leave, salary and pension package, we know there is more to life than work. That’s why our working practices and benefits are based on supporting your well-being so you can enjoy your time in and out of work.

* Please note the closing date for this role is Friday 7 January, however we may close the vacancy early if we receive a large amount of applications, so we recommend you apply as soon as possible.
