Our Port Of Southampton is the UK’s number one hub for deep sea trade and a critical link in supply chains serving businesses and manufacturers throughout the nation. With a strong emphasis on Automotive import and export business, along with a buoyant cruise operation, it's a port that is Britain's Gateway To The World. Our projects team in Southampton handles any project up to £20m in value - recent projects have included moving the WW2 Whale Bridge to the Marchwood Site and the ICE award winning Best Project Asset Maintenance Award for the Solent Gateway Marine Infrastructure development.

 

Due to an internal move, we're currently looking to recruit an Engineering Programme Manager to manage a team of 11 in delivering Engineering Infrastructure biased projects across the Port estate. You'll ideally be a chartered engineer with a strong approach to developing and mentoring your team, in addition to the overall programme management, you will also be involved with managing your own projects and providing SME across the region. The role has overall accountability for the safe and efficient delivery of capital projects ensuring delivery on time, to budget and quality.

Accountabilities

-  To lead the overall direction and delivery of the assigned Capital Engineering Projects activity in an effective and inspired manner.

-  Ensuring the projects team have an aligned and agreed view of their performance and delivery expectations and of their role within the projects team.

-  Supervising and monitoring of all project work being completed within the team.

-  Providing coaching and mentoring to the projects team members, ensuring high levels of motivation are maintained.

-  Ensuring Continual Professional Development is maintained and training provided as necessary for the team.

-  Preparing and supervising the preparation of tender documentation/specifications.

-  Contract and Contractor management, take on role as “Engineer” under the Contract

-  Work with Asset Managers and the Head of Engineering and Asset Management to provide technical support and advice in relation to the capital investment plan.

-  Management and control of the capital expenditure budget, ensuring project finances are measured and tracked against the approved project budget.

 

Skills & Experience

-  Relevant technical, professional qualification to degree level and preferably chartered

-  Relevant Project Management qualification - ideally APM

-  Ability to prioritise and drive safe delivery of all project works across the estate

-  Experience of working within in an infrastructure development and delivery environment in a project management role, and evidence that this has involved delivering projects to time, cost and quality objectives

-  Contract management and experience of Construction contracts e.g .NEC, ICC, FIDIC

-  Excellent communication skills, good leadership skills as well as being persuasive, encouraging and motivating
