Job Tile: Port Operative

Location: Newport

Department: Rail

Salary: Successful candidate will be brought in on a Tier 1 Salary £27,935.27 + 25% shift allowance, this will be increased to a Tier 2 Salary £29,950.99 once sufficient training has been completed.

 

We are looking to hire a Port Operative to join us at Newport in our Rail department. You will play a critical role in managing and facilitating the efficient movement of goods via rail. Your responsibilities ensure cargo handling and logistics coordination for customers relying on rail transport.

 

The shift is a mixture of 4in, 5 off and 5in and 4 off between the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM throughout Monday – Sunday. Employees are required to work two weekend in every four weeks.

 

Accountabilities

  • Operate heavy plant and machinery to achieve the safe and efficient handling of cargo.
  • To undergo training to operate new and additional plant and equipment as required to meet customer and operational requirements. This will include the operation of quayside and mobile harbour cranes.
  • To engage in the safe movement of cargo in storage areas, warehouses and on vessels.
  • Aid in the operation of the weighbridge and record and compile other administrative information associated with cargo movement and cargo handling accessories as required.
  • Work with IT systems and internal and external software packages.
  • To undertake cleaning tasks and general maintenance duties associated with the efficient operation of the port.
  • To perform all other tasks as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Full UK Driving License
  • Comfortable working at height
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
  • Handheld Scanner
  • Stock Management

Ideal Plant Machinery Experience

  • 25ton Forklift (Both Blade & Pod)
  • Gantry Crane
