Here at Associated British Ports we are recruiting for a Data and Integration Architect to join our growing IT function. We are currently undergoing an IT transformation and this is an exciting time as we build an IT team that will drive technological change within Associated British Ports. This vacancy can be based anywhere in the UK, however there will be regular travel to our ports.
The Data & Integration Architect will contribute to the definition of an information strategy and manage the integrity, storage and use of our information to

Accountabilities
- Develop and maintain the Data Architecture (model) and roadmap for business information – creating a flexible data model which
supports each of the divisions to achieve theirstrategic aims, whilst ensuring a common, pan-business approach - Develop logical, physical and conceptual data models to underpin the use of data across the business
- Assist in the development, maintenance and communication of the business’s strategy for managing information ensuring that uniformly recognised data definitions are developed and applied throughout the business
- Model the processes and information required to
support the organization and devise corresponding standards, processes, data structures and architectures - Contribute to the enterprise data model; data dictionary; data naming standards; design standards and maintenance of data integrity across systems
- Define standards and guidelines for data modelling and data design
- Research, evaluate and advise on emerging data collection and analysis and integration technologies. Identifying cost effective ways to achieve business information needs
- Contribute to high level solution design, in line with the business strategy, the enterprise architecture and the technology roadmap; ensuring the data model and legal requirements are
adhered to - Ensure project design deliverables confirm to information architecture principles
- Participate in project governance for solution approval and design and quality assurance
- Provide guidance and
support on data architecture and specialist data modelling advice to project teams and advise teams on the correct approach to the use of business data Responsible for identifying and recommending common data and integration technologies, frameworks and approaches for use by development teams on projects, including the identification of specific technologies to be used- Provide information SME input into major business change initiatives
Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies
Essential
- Knowledge of relevant industry architecture frameworks and standards
- Knowledge of the business, for which the enterprise architecture is being developed
- Knowledge of financial modelling as it pertains to IT investment.
- Knowledge of IT governance and operation
- Ability to write architectural design documents or review design documents provided by others.
- Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply trends to architectural needs.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment and appropriately prioritise tasks, and keep abreast of the latest technology.
- Able to work independently with a strong bias to getting things done.
Understand the true value to the business of meeting objectives and timely delivery. - Willingness to travel around the Group as required for specific projects and generally.
- Possess a firm belief in the values of customer service and ABP’s core values of openness and honesty, teamwork and respect, along with the ambition to make a difference and exceed expectations.
Desirable
- Experience as technical lead for a major technology implementation
- Previous experience of working as an Infrastructure Architect
- Experience in Microsoft Project and any overlay
- Experience of working in any one of the functional areas used within ABP
- Possess a good degree in an IT related subject relevant to this post
