ABP is seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Development Manager to lead our efforts in the area of Carbon Capture and Storage and CO2 shipping. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, developing, and executing strategic opportunities that drive growth in these critical areas. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape ABP's role in supporting the UK’s energy transition and contributing to a sustainable future.

 

Purpose

The Business Development Manager will support the development and put into action its CCS, CCU and CO2 Shipping Strategy, helping to create a compelling value proposition for the whole CCS and CCU value chain. Spot and nurture new business chances related to CCS, CO2 shipping, and other energy transition initiatives at ABP's ports.

 

The BDM will share expert insights to smooth out commercial negotiations and lead the charge in building financial models to evaluate opportunities. Advocating CCS and CO2 shipping with external stakeholders, government and policymakers.

 

Accountabilities

  • Identify and working with Group Head of BD prioritise new business opportunities
  • Build and develop relationships with new and existing customers
  • Determine customer requirements and work with regional and functional teams to develop bespoke solutions
  • Work in/lead project teams (as appropriate) to progress commercial opportunities
  • Prepare and submit responses to RFPs/RFQs, quotations, new business proposals and value propositions for customers
  • Develop and manage commercial opportunities through the pipeline and associated business cases through to investment appraisal/decision
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and work with legal team to produce, negotiate and execute contract documents
  • Represent ABP at tradeshows, exhibitions and industry events; present at conferences and seminars
  • Comply with the commercial sales process and other commercial procedures/ways of working
  • Manage customer information through use of the CRM system to record information related to customers, pipeline and opportunity management
  • Acts as internal expert and advocate on CCS and CO2 shipping
  • Comply at all times with ABP’s Health and Safety Policies and procedures and promote Beyond Zero culture

 

Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies

Essential

  • Commercially astute with a clear passion for driving the commercial success of the company
  • Clear understanding and experience of CCS and CO2 shipping
  • Demonstrable experience of commercial negotiation skills and expertise with commercial contracts
  • Proven experience and understanding of building business cases and communicating internally (inc. Discounted cashflow / NPV / IRR etc)
  • Proven experience and capability to build and sustain relationships with major stakeholders/customers
  • Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook and CRM systems
  • Customer focused
  • Tenacious and proactive personality
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn/develop new skills
  • Ability to handle pressure and critical decision-making
  • Open to new ideas
  • Well organised with the ability to manage competing and conflicting priorities

Desirable

  • Several years’ experience of CCUS (or other connected areas of the energy transition) with working in a commercial/sales/customer service environment
  • Proven track record of business development
  • Experience within ports or other transport infrastructure experience
