Job Title: Compliance Manager, Health, Safety and Environment (Humber)

Location: Humber (primary location of Hull or Immingham, with regular travel to all 4 sites (Immingham, Grimsby, Hull & Goole)

ABP are looking for a proactive and driven individual to coach, challenge and support the Humber region’s approach to Occupational Health and Safety Management. 

 

You will support the delivery of business objectives through the provision of industry leading services and provide proactive management support to re-enforce the QHSS&E agenda.  You will lead compliance officers across the Humber, ensuring that the compliance team have the resources, skills and managerial support to deliver against agreed business plans, and provide the appropriate functional support services established with business leaders and ultimately the ABP Compliance Director.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Working with the Port Manager to ensure safe working practices and a safe working environment are commonplace within their port and on the Humber.  This includes carrying out appropriate compliance management and monitoring activities to assist the Port Managers in fulfilling their compliance obligations.
  • In consultation with the Head of Compliance, develop a robust, comprehensive health and safety strategy for the Humber consistent with overall ABP Group compliance strategy.
  • Leading, managing, and developing a Compliance Advisor reporting to them, so as to ensure they are best-in-class and adequately resourced at all times.
  • Engaging with their respective management team to create a strong compliance culture which recognises local ownership of compliance at all levels and strives to deliver a safe, beyond zero-harm working environment.
  • Assist Humber Marine Teams in compliance with Port Marine Safety Code.
  • Responsible for the ongoing management, development and training of team members. To undertake appraisals (PDR) and to ensure team members have sufficient knowledge to be able to operate independently on a day to day basis.
  • Ensure health and safety inspections and audits are on a planned basis and submit reports to line managers.
  • Ensure dangerous occurrences and accidents at work are investigated thoroughly and recommend remedial measures to prevent recurrence where necessary.
  • Driving culture change across reporting areas, embedding continuous improvement in all activities and processes, so as to achieve a beyond zero-harm level of performance.
  • Liaise with the enforcing authorities, insurance companies and other trade organisation’s and outside agencies including local authorities, MCA, Environment Agency, Police, HM Revenue & Customs, HSE etc. on matters relating to compliance at work.
  • Initiate, develop and implement safety campaigns to promote safe working practices on and off the job.  This includes reacting where trends are recognised and campaigns introduced to redress the situation, or proactive to address possible risks.
  • Monitor and co-ordinate the activities of tenants and customers in respect of compliance at work.

 

Interested?  We are looking for somebody who has:

  • Demonstrable influential leadership skills and is considered a credible, resilient and confident people-leader.
  • A recognised Health and Safety qualification (e.g. BSc. NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ or other relevant qualification) and be a chartered member of, or working towards, IOSH.
  • Extensive experience in assessing risks and formulating safe systems of work.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, training and influencing skills.
  • Good organisational and personnel management skills.
  • Demonstrable approach to Continuous Professional Development.
  • A current UK Driving Licence.

 

Ideally, you’ll also have :

  • Experience with COMAH, dangerous goods and major hazards.
  • Minimum 1 year working within the port industry.
  • Experience of cargo handling in ports (or equivalent).
