We are looking for an experienced Heavy Plant Maintenance Fitter to join our Engineering team at the Port of Hull, playing a vital role in keeping port operations running safely and efficiently.

 

You will be working in a unique and fast‑paced port environment and providing a mechanical maintenance service across a wide range of mobile plant and equipment, supporting 24/7 operations. This is a hands‑on role involving planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, breakdown response and repair, carried out in a safe, timely and cost‑effective manner.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance and repair work in line with safe systems of work and risk assessments
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency situations during normal and out‑of‑hours operations
  • Support the identification of future maintenance and repair requirements
  • Work alongside third‑party contractors as required
  • Accurately complete work orders and maintain asset history records
  • Assist with reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work

 

About You
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, proactive individual with a mechanical maintenance background in heavy industry, who enjoys working as part of a team and thrives in an operational environment.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Time‑served apprenticeship with a mechanical engineering qualification (e.g. City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Technology or higher)
  • Proven experience in plant maintenance, including hydraulics, diesel engines and automotive electrical fault diagnosis
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety and process safety
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience using a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS), ideally Mainsaver (Desirable)
  • Previous experience in a port, heavy plant or similar industrial environment

 

Note: The role operates on a rolling 4‑on, 4‑off shift pattern (12‑hour day shifts) and includes a holiday entitlement of 24.5 days per year.
