As we look to expand the Marine division we are looking to recruit three Trainee Marine Pilots.

The role involves offering Masters or those with equivalent experience appropriate navigational guidance, drawing on their expertise in the pilotage area. Your collaboration with the Management team will contribute to a customer-centric approach, an excellent work environment, and ongoing improvements in our operations and services. You will also uphold safety, compliance, and sustainability.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Pilots navigate ships in the Humber Estuary, boarding moving vessels from pilot launches. They face physical challenges like rough seas and climbing high ladders to access vessel decks.
  • Providing cover for all pilotage requirements and achieving an effective pilotage service within the Humber Estuary.
  • Aligning with the company’s Health & Safety Policy and participating in any required training.
  • Observing safety codes and procedures, attending courses, and performing training as required.
  • Driving company vehicles.
  • Participating in meetings with both internal and external collaborators.
  • Passage planning vessel movements, considering tides, weather, size, weight, and operational characteristics to ensure minimum under keel clearance criteria are always met.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant information such as Notices to Mariners and Charts.
  • Proactively supporting our strategic pillars: emphasising customer-centricity, crafting an excellent workplace, prioritising safety, and sustainability, driving continuous improvement, and being responsible members of the community.

About you:

  • Must hold a valid STCW II/II Certificate of Competency (Chief Mate or Master) or Royal Navy equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of Marine Legislation.
  • Self-motivated individual with good communication skills.
  • Willing to undertake further training as necessary.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must hold a valid UK driving licence.

Ideally:

  • Recent seagoing experience within the management structure of a vessel.
  • Previous experience as a Pilot in another district
  • Previous experience with ABP Health and Safety practices.
  • Computer literate.
