We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Marine Coordinator to join our team in Barrow-in-Furness. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of marine activities within the port.  You’ll need to have recent experience within a marine environment including knowledge and understanding of port lock operations.

 

Accountabilities

  • To provide cover of the Marine Control Function to facilitate the Safe Navigation and Operation of the Port of Barrow and it’s Navigable waters.
  • To provide Local Port Service cover on a 24/7 basis to monitor, liaise and inform traffic on matters of safety, port information and weather as well as any relevant information required for the safe navigation in the port district.
  • To monitor, by electronic, visual and VHF as well as any other means, all vessels using the port to make sure port and government regulations are being adhered to.
  • Provide response (First point of contact) to Port Emergencies in accordance with the Port Emergency, Major Incident and Oil Pollution Contingency/Business continuity plans.
  • Assist Port Security to ensure Security monitoring is carried out and recorded as per ISPS/DfT requirements.
  • Control & monitor dock levels and operate locks/gates/sluices/Sea gates in accordance with ABP Safety codes and Safe systems of Work.
  • Adherence to the Port Marine Safety Code by following the Marine Safety Management System, Marine Operations manual and Marine control standing orders/instructions.
  • Carry out routine monthly Safety inspections and security inspections incorporating Lighting/Life belts/ladders/Fencing (Safety & ISPS).
  • Complete routine administration as required.
  • Have a good understanding of and comply with the company’s and Ports operational/incident manuals.
  • Issuing of Permissions to work (Dive permissions etc.).
  • Vessel Bunker request/forms.
  • Provide support to the Harbour Master, Deputy Harbour Master and Assistant Harbour Master as required.
  • Relay and provide information to and from Port users/Ships agents etc.
  • Maintain daily log to provide accurate stemming information and complete asset monitoring logs.
  • Liaise with vessels and Emergency services to relay vital information and organise/orchestrate medical emergencies. 

 

Essentials

  • Ability to react confidently within a dynamic marine environment.
  • Recent experience within a marine environment including knowledge and understanding of port lock operations.
  • Ability to provide appropriate and responsible advice to port user enquiries.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and possess a working familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Competency in VHF radio operation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Capable of working on own initiative on a rotating shift pattern.
