Contract type: Fixed contract, 12 months with possibility of extension

Would you like to use your understanding to inform and support maritime operations in the UK and abroad?


Marine consultancy and survey company, ABPmer, is seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join its maritime specialists in providing technical advice and support to ports, harbours, marinas, terminals and ship operators and others working in the marine space. The role is offered on a fixed term contract of 12 months with potential for a permanent position after this period.


This is a great opportunity for a mariner with project management skills looking to work ashore, or a port, terminal or marine manager wishing to apply their experience to consultancy. 


About the role

Day to day tasks will involve the collation, analysis and interpretation of maritime operational data.    You will be writing clear and concise briefing notes and reports, as well as presenting information to clients and external stakeholders. 


Not only working with ABPmer colleagues, you will also be regularly engaging with Harbour Masters, Pilots and marine operational staff. 


As we deliver varied projects throughout the UK and overseas, some of our project work requires site-visits, port and ship operational checks, small boat survey work and working away from home for extended periods (circa two weeks). 


This role might be right for you if you have

  • A degree-level in a relevant subject or equivalent deck officer training;
  • Working knowledge of ports/marine/vessel operations;
  • Ability to interpret and present maritime information;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint user;
  • Excellent time-management, organisational and prioritisation skills; and
  • a driving licence and a self-sufficient mindset is essential, UK travel is an expectation.


Desirable skills and experience

  • Consultancy or project management experience;
  • Understanding of risk management processes;
  • Small boat handling skills; and
  • Assurance auditing experience.
