Here at Associated British Ports we are currently recruiting for a Project Engineering Manager to join our Asset Management Team. This position is based in Newport and covers our 5 ports in South Wales, and our 2 ports in South West England.

 

The Project Engineering Manager will ensure assigned civil CapEx projects are delivered in a compliant, effective and efficient manner from concept through to closure in allocated ports and regions South Wales region.

 

This is a varied and interesting role with projects varying from fitting new dock lock gates, reinforcing pier walls or construction of bespoke warehousing or for our port customers. You will also forecast accurate project forecasting, handover to operation and maintenance, benefits realisation and project management alignment to group standards. Budgetary levels will be as determined within the rolling 5-year plans for both EBITDA and non EBITDA generating schemes.

Accountabilities

  • Safe and compliant execution of projects to Time, Quality, Cost and Risk from Concept through to Closure.
  • Regular and timely project reporting enabling portfolio visibility, robust cash flow forecasting and risk management.
  • Audit projects for compliance and delivery to the plan.
  • Develop procurement strategies and project execution synergies, hence providing optimum value for money.
  • Hold a full awareness of the 5 year business plan ensuring project sub-teams are adequately resourced to successfully deliver inline with Group policy, process and procedure.
  • Alongside the Asset Management team, take an active role in developing the 5 year asset investment plans related to the creation, refurbishment and/or upgrade of the assets.
  • Ensure alignment with Centre of Excellence and other senior project management colleagues across ABP.
  • Mentor, coach and develop project team members both those employed as Project Engineers and employees delivering Capital spend within their port(s) / regions, e.g. Resource Engineering Managers.

 

Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies

Essential

  • At least 5 years post qualification Project Management experience in a civil asset intensive industry.
  • Educated to graduate degree level with relevant professional qualifications/professional body membership.
  • Proven track record of managing the delivery of projects across all aspects of the project lifecycle.
  • Strong commercial acumen and working knowledge of forms of contract.
  • As this is a functional leadership position the job holder is expected to be a role model
  • To act as a team player, coach and facilitator - within Project Management in ABP and within their regional team
  • To reflect local issues accurately and clearly to stakeholders working remotely and without detailed regional knowledge
  • To be able to resolve (and assist others to resolve) people issues whenever they arise.
  • Strategic, innovative, highly commercial and analytical
  • The job holder needs excellent interpersonal, communication and relational abilities. Understands the link between engagement and performance.
  • Strong drive for continuous improvement - never satisfied with the status quo 

Ideal

  • Knowledge and experience of project management governance systems and continuous improvement in a regulated and/or safety critical industry.
  • Experience of working with project management modules in an Enterprise Resource Planning system, ideally SAP.
