Port Operative
Starting salary: £21,370
Newport, Wales

ABP is one of the largest port companies in the UK, developing and managing a network of 21 ports. We play a vital role in keeping goods moving from land-to-sea and sea-to-land, as well as investing in the future of our ports to make them more sustainable, more efficient and more advanced. As a Port Operative, you will play a vital role in keeping cargo moving in the right direction.

If you are looking for a fast-paced environment where you can continually build skills on large-scale equipment, this is the place to be. You will ensure the safe movement and efficient handling of cargo, working in a team atmosphere where everyone pulls together to complete the work. Operating in storage areas, warehouses, on the quayside and on vessels, you will ensure that all duties are undertaken in accordance with safety policies and procedures. When required, you will also help with recording administrative information, stock management, cleaning and general maintenance.

We provide ongoing training and development and there are plenty of opportunities to progress your career. You must already have Operations experience, in either a Port or a Warehouse, where you’ve been trained to operate some or all of the following types of machinery:

  • Overhead gantry cranes
  • Forklift trucks
  • Loading shovel
  • 360 excavator
  • Tug-master
