Here at Associated British Ports we are recruiting for IT Solutions Project Manager. We are currently undergoing an IT transformation evolution and this is an exciting time as we build an IT function that will drive technological change within Associated British Ports. This vacancy can be based anywhere in the UK, however there will be regular travel to our ports.

 

As an IT Solutions Project Manager within ABP you will be responsible for driving forward the delivery of projects to achieve an effective business outcome, ensuring successful delivery within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints as well as assisting with the preparation of business cases with our Business Partnering Team to develop business requirements into a deliverable project of work.

 

You will be an experienced IT Project Manager, ideally with experience in logistics or supply chain projects and can tailor and apply best practise delivery methods to meet the needs of both the project and the project environment. Accountabilities

  • Follow & enforce the IT Operating Framework adhering to all documentation standards & reporting requirements
  • Deliver assigned projects to agreed time, cost and quality in a flexible and appropriate manner
  • Contribute to business case development, working with Business leads in the planning and cost elements of the business case
  • Agree the project team structure and define responsibilities and reporting lines for each role.
  • Establish and maintain an appropriate governance model for internal and external stakeholders and project teams.
  • Prepare and maintain Project Plans (level 1, 2 & 3 as appropriate) to include milestones, phase gates etc.
  • Work with & guide the business teams to prepare (where applicable) a detailed cut-over plan into hyper-care then into business-as-usual operations
  • Identify the appropriate mix of expertise, knowledge, and capabilities required to achieve the project purpose
  • Maintain project / programme RAID including the setting of due dates. Pro-actively gain status updates, escalating where necessary for both internal project teams and 3rd parties
  • Engage in appropriate project task level meetings to understand project team(s) progress, monitor slippages and instigate appropriate remedial actions where required
  • Ensure sure project team members understand & comply with relevant policies & procedures
  • Encourage and promote team building and collaboration within each assigned project.
  • Effectively manage local and virtual team structures as required.
  • Discuss quality expectations with stakeholders and agree acceptance criteria
  • Engage in the negotiation and liaison with project specific 3rd parties including the review / preparation of Statements of Work.
  • Change control management inclusive of cost changes and impact to both plan overall cost to complete

 

 

 

Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies

 

Essential

  • Broad project management experience and a deep understanding and ability to apply available project management standards, tools and techniques in order to achieve this.
  • Track record of delivering complex technology projects to scope, time and budget.
  • Experience of team leadership, including motivation and direction of project team members
  • The ability to cope with uncertainty, conflict and change. You are flexible, persistent and have well developed creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, varying your approach to meet the needs of different stakeholders and situations.
  • Foster a culture of collaborative working and transparency both within the team and with external stakeholders, especially the customer
  • Track record of the production of accurate and concise project deliverables, structured in an appropriate business format. 
  • Track record of use and promotion of formal methodology and tools within project teams
  • Ability to manage remote teams and 3rd party delivery
  • Supplier management skills with a strong commercial acumen
  • Possess a firm belief in the values of customer service and ABP’s core values of openness and honesty, teamwork and respect, along with the ambition to make a difference and exceed expectations

 

Ideal

  • Experience of working in any one of the functional areas used within ABP
  • Possess a degree in an IT related subject relevant to this post
  • Recognised Project Management qualification e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, PRINCE2Agile, AgilePM
  • Managing projects in an SAP landscape
