Here at Associated British Ports we are currently for an Electrician to join our Engineering team at Kings Lynn.

 

As an Electrician you will carry out electrical inspection, maintenance, fault diagnostics and installation work safely in line with all current legislation and ABP guidelines.

 

Your work will also include maintenance of cranes, machinery, plant and ships locks, sluices and other equipment used in the Port.

 

We are seeking for someone who has completed a time served apprenticeship and has experience of maintenance & breakdowns in heavy industry, with a flexible outlook and who enjoys working as part of a team. Ideally you will have mechanical experience as well, however this is not essential.

Accountabilities

  • To work in accordance with ABP Health, Safety and Environmental requirements in a safe and methodical manner. Complying with ABP Safe Systems of Work and taking an active part in risk assessments and tool box talks.
  • Understand and work to ABP’s Permit to Work system.
  • Conducting visual checks, electrical testing (insulation tests, armature tests, field winding tests) and cleaning of motors and generators.  Highlighting fault prevention opportunities making repairs to worn components and replacing routine components.
  • Carry out scheduled servicing and report and rectify any defects as required to plant, equipment and vessels from insurance inspection reports.
  • Look to contribute to a continual improvement culture amongst staff, through the development of improved systems/procedures that will drive forward all aspects of the port operation.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Semi-Skilled Engineers and Apprentices in undertaking the works in a safe, cost effective and timely manner
  • Install and identify new supplies and systems to industrial, commercial, marine, marina and Port facilities. Including planning, identification of materials, equipment and time required for completion of the project.

 

Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies

Essential

  • Engineering qualification or equivalent tradesman experience and maintenance in industrial industry working with heavy plant and equipment
  • A sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Service and customer driven, excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate through all levels and platforms from face to face to phone and email
  • Proficient in reading and using electrical plant drawings and technical software information to problem solve
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Have a flexible approach to service delivery, operations, working hours and duties.
  • A desire to help develop the role to best meet the requirements of ABP, colleagues and customers.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Working at height will be required on a regular basis

 

Ideal

  • Experience of operating port equipment, including mobile and quayside cranes, FLT, and high-level lighting would be desirable.
  • Working knowledge of engineering/maintenance in a port industry would be desirable
  • Confined space experience would be desirable
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Experience and training in Operating Plant and equipment used regularly in Port Operations
  • Desire to continue personal development in engineering
