Here at Associated British Ports, we are currently recruiting for a Project Engineering Manager preferably near Ipswich. This is an exciting role that will be pivotal in how we define, manage and deliver our projects in the East Anglia region.

 

This would be an excellent role for someone seeking the next rung on their career ladder. Reporting to the Divisional Project Manager, East Anglia, the Project Engineering Manager will be responsible for delivering CapEx projects in a compliant, effective and efficient manner from concept to closure. You will be involved in a variety of projects such as new warehouse builds, lock gate renewals, new port infrastructure and other civil projects.

 

We are seeking a talented project management professional with strategic awareness whilst having the drive and determination to get things done. To compliment this, you must have in-depth experience of asset-based projects, possibly gained from engineering, civil or construction based industries.

 

The successful applicant can be based anywhere in East Anglia, ideally within commuting distance of one of our East Anglia ports in Ipswich, Lowestoft and Kings Lynn. . There will be regular travel between these sites dependant on business/project demand and there may also be occasional travel to other ports across the country.

Accountabilities

  • Safe and compliant execution of projects to time, quality, cost and risk from concept through to closure.
  • Regular and timely project reporting enabling portfolio visibility, robust cash flow forecasting and risk management.
  • Audit projects for compliance and delivery to the plan.
  • Develop procurement strategies and project execution synergies, hence providing optimum value for money.
  • Hold a full awareness of the 5 year business plan ensuring project sub-teams are adequately resourced to successfully deliver in line with Group policy, process and procedure.
  • Alongside the Asset Management team, take an active role in developing the 5 year asset investment plans related to the creation, refurbishment and/or upgrade of the assets.
  • Ensure alignment with Centre of Excellence and other senior project management colleagues across ABP.
  • Mentor, coach and develop project team members both those employed as Project Engineers and employees delivering Capital spend within their port(s) / regions, e.g. Resource Engineering Managers.

 

Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies

Essential

  • Significant post qualification project management experience in an asset intensive industry.
  • Educated to graduate degree level with relevant professional qualifications/professional body membership.
  • Proven track record of managing the delivery of projects across all aspects of the project lifecycle.
  • Strong commercial acumen and working knowledge of forms of contract.
  • Excellent people skills, able to be a team player, coach and facilitator.
  • Ability to resolve (and assist others to resolve) people issues whenever they arise.
  • Strategic, innovative, highly commercial and analytical.
  • The job holder needs excellent interpersonal, communication and relational abilities. Understands the link between engagement and performance.
  • Strong drive for continuous improvement - never satisfied with the status quo. 

 

Ideal

  • Knowledge and experience of project management governance systems and continuous improvement in a regulated and/or safety critical industry.
  • Experience of working with project management modules in an Enterprise Resource Planning system, ideally SAP.
  • Use of AutoCAD is an advantage.
