The Role: Engineering Planner

Location: East Anglia (Ipswich, Lowestoft, Kings Lynn) or North West (Garston, Barrow)



Maximise asset performance by ensuring the utilisation of labour, materials, plant & equipment is optimised via effective and efficient prioritised maintenance plans.



- To assist the Asset Planning Manager and the local engineering teams with planning engineering work, utilising labour, plant and equipment.

- To assist with controlling the schedule of planned and unplanned work regarding critical and non-critical assets.

- To provisionally organise work-load regarding critical and non-critical assets

- To enter records of work carried out and labour utilisation on to ABP’s computerised maintenance management system (Mainsaver)

- To work with the local engineering teams to optimise and refine maintenance routines

- To collect data and provide performance, efficiency and governance reports across the region

- To ensure that all planned work has been risk assessed by the appropriate individual(s)

- To coordinate materials procurement with the engineering supervisors and ensure that materials are available in advance of planned work

- To ensure that statutory inspections are carried out recorded and copies filed in the correct positions

- To monitor, generate and close work orders from the preventative maintenance and liaise with the local engineering team.

- To work in a safe and methodical manner to ABP’s Safe Systems of Work and take an active part in risk assessments.


About you:

Ideally you will have an engineering background, either on the tools or from a prior maintenance planning role. You should be highly organised with good IT skills especially MS Office and have used a CMMS system in a previous role – ideally Mainsaver. The role will involve both written and verbal communication and contact with internal and external parties. The role is planning mainly planned works but will also involve some reactive works.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications


Proven experience of managing and controlling maintenance plans

Competent in IT systems and productivity software

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to work as a team.

Have a flexible approach to service delivery.

A desire to help develop the role to best meet the requirements of ABP and customers.

Full UK driving Licence.



Previous use and experience of a CMMS system – ideally Mainsaver, Maximo or similar

Working knowledge of engineering/maintenance in a port industry would be desirable

Experience of engineering preventative maintenance practices in heavy industry


This role is also possible to be based at our North West ports in Garston or Barrow.
