Utilities Assistant - meter reader

The Role – Utilities Administrator; meter reading (Humber Region)

 

The Purpose:

To proactively manage and read all the Humber ports’ utilities meters’ consumption including water, electricity and gas to ensure all customers are accurately recharged.

To gain a working understanding of the Humber utility infrastructure and make recommendations to target wastage and improve efficiency savings.

To support the Energy Manager and engage with colleagues across all departments, as well as tenants and customers to drive a utility efficiency culture across the business.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Ensure the ‘Optima’ database is regularly up to date with the meter readings to allow consistent and accurate customer billing.
  • Develop a working technical understanding of the Humber Port’s utilities networks.
  • Support the Energy Manager in identifying and implementing efficiency opportunities and savings projects across the region.
  • Provide a monthly update report to the Energy Manager on issues arising and actions carried out to resolve.
  • Periodically meet with stakeholders including Terminal Managers and customers to review how they/we can reduce consumption.
  • Manage the Smart Meter database and work with the Energy Manager to expand the network of Smart Meters across the Region.
  • Ensure every meter’s location is accurately recorded on the Property GIS system.
  • Issue disconnection, meter change recommendations and notices to the Engineering Team.
  • Working with the Engineering Team and Energy Manager to progress new service requests.
  • Working closely with the Credit Control Team to proactively manage the collection of monies owed by small debtors.
  • Be the main point of contact for external meter reading agencies

The key to success in this role is communication, it is essential that you can use your initiative and be proactive.

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

 

Essential:

  • A good communicator, happy to chat with colleagues and customers at all levels.
  • Ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of the wider Ports’ teams.
  • Pragmatic and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail and numerical.
  • Ability to prioritise their workload coordinating a range of activities
  • Computer skills (Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel & Outlook)
  • Clean Driving Licence

 

Ideal:

  • Previous energy / meter reading experience
