Resource Planner - Humber Central Planning (Hull)

The Role:  Resource Planner – central planning (Hull)



To provide support and development of the daily & strategical planning element of the central planning function (CPF) and build effective forecasting requirements (7days+) of appropriately skilled ABP & 3rd party labour resource to equal demand


To liaise with Commercial & Financial departments to understand the up and coming projects, to work closely with Operations to build and develop planning tools and operational templates for vessel/rail and landside activities and the ABP Academy to ensure CPF have the optimum workforce to deliver the best possible service.


This role will cover the allocation of resource to the Humber ports. This will not be for one main location but flexible across all areas. Primarily based at Immingham Dock Office, however there may be occasions where Humber travel is required.




  • Fulfil the planning, forecasting, coordinating and reporting requirements of CPF
  • Create daily/weekly resource allocation and management of staff rosters, WTD, efficiency, productivity, utilization; in relation to all the different working patterns/contracts
  • Create, implement and maintain KPI’s, dashboards and adhoc reports
  • Develop and maintain a competency and skills matrix
  • Identify and manage skills/resource gaps
  • Promote continuous improvement and process standardisation within the department
  • Ensure all compliance measures are maintained and promote a safe working environment
  • Directly liaise with ABP departments to develop a strategical approach to support our values and six strategical pillars.
  • Support the team in order to deliver our internal/external SLAs, with support from the Ops Planning Supervisor.



About you:

With demonstrable experience of working in a high-volume resource environment, you will have excellent organisation and prioritisation skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure to achieve objectives.


However, the real key to success in this role is communication; it is essential that you can use your initiative, be self-motivated and proactive.



Skills, Experience & Qualifications



  • Extensive experience of Microsoft Office and strong working knowledge of excel related functionalities (Macros, Pivot tables etc)
  • Maintain confidentiality and security in accordance with GDPR regulations
  • Capacity to work with limited supervision, to make decisions and work on own initiative
  • Ability to work in a busy environment, working to deadlines on multiple actions
  • Effective communication skills, in order to deal tactfully and sensitively with people at all levels
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to get to and from the terminals across the Humber on a regular basis


  • PAVIS Experience
  • Continuous Improvement & Lean awareness/background
  • Previous experience with SAP systems
