The Role:  Capital Accountant – Port Business Services (PBS)

 

Purpose:

To process fixed assets and the income and expenses for all projects including all capital expenditure and work in progress (WIP) within ABP’s Finance Shared Services (FSS) team in Port Business Services (PBS).

 

 

Scope:

The Capital Accountant within PBS will be responsible for the delivery of the following services for all parts of ABP:

  • Process acquisition, disposal and depreciation accounting for all fixed assets
  • Process income and expenses for all projects (including Capital Expenditure) and WIP
  • Calculate post investment appraisals for projects
  • Produce fixed asset and project reports
  • Liaise extensively with engineers and project owners to provide process and financial guidance on capital projects.
  • Complete year end disclosures for both management and statutory reporting.
  • Support the budgeting/forecasting process with detailed submissions of capital and revenue expenditure.
  • Co-ordinate the annual investment property valuation exercise for the regions and ensure the financial statements are updated accordingly.

 

Accountabilities:

  1. Culture & Team
  • Demonstrate a service culture and strong customer service skills
  • Assist with the integration of new employees to the team
  • Work with the Record to Report to achieve objectives

 

  1. Delivery of Services
  • Process timely, relevant and accurate capital accounting activities; to include acquisition, disposal and depreciation accounting for all fixed assets and manage income and expenses for all projects (including cap ex) and WIP
  • Prepare fixed asset and project reports
  • Calculate post investment appraisals for projects
  • Keep the Record to Report Lead updated on fixed asset, project and WIP issues
  • Responsible for the retention of documents and making available to local audit, as required
  • Be seen, internally, as a point of contact for capital accounting matters

     

  1. Management and ongoing monitoring of service delivery
  • Compliance with performance KPI’s for the Capital Accounting Team
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of fixed asset, project and WIP processing
  • Monitor the volume of fixed asset and project transactions
  • Responsible for the consistent and ongoing adherence to guidelines and internal controls

 

  1. Continuous Improvement
  • Build relationships with key points of contact across the processes and other functions within the FSS in order to maintain an understanding of the process context and identify both intra process and cross process improvement opportunities
  • Proactively suggest improvement ideas to drive continuous improvement

 

  1. Transition Management
  • Assist with the transition of activities in to PBS

Experience

  • 3+ year’s capital accounts experience in a capital accounting role
  • Experience of working in a service culture environment
  • Basic understanding of respective end to end Finance processes 

 

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification
  • Qualified accountant

 

Skills

  • Good communication (verbal and written) and inter-personal skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Skills in planning, organising and time management
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to forge strong working relationships with a diverse set of colleagues

 

Ideal

  • Experience of working in a shared service centre
  • SAP experience
  • Experience of the Ports Industry
