Here at Associated British Ports we are recruiting for an IT Network Lead to join our growing IT function. We are currently undergoing an IT transformation and this is an exciting time as we build an IT function that will drive technological change within Associated British Ports. This vacancy can be based in either Cardiff, Hull or Southampton.

 

The purpose of this role is to ensure the highest quality of service is delivered to the business through the management and development of; our Network team, ensuring the reliable and secure operation of WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi networks. Supporting business initiatives, IT initiatives and network infrastructure enhancements through resourcing, expertise, and deployments. Reliably reporting on network performance, identifying areas for improvement including technology enhancements whilst adhering to security principles and initiatives. Ensuring value and service from network related 3rd party support and management contracts.

 

This is an exciting and busy role with plenty of variety.  You will have responsibility of the Network estate, including: LAN, Wi-Fi and Operational Networks (SCADA, Radar) across all of our port estates.

Accountabilities

  • Lead, development and support performance of the Network Team
  • Drive Continuous Improvement in network operations
  • Establish and maintain network operational processes
  • Establish and publish network performance and service metrics to agreed SLA’s and OLS’s
  • Effectively resource and deliver required work packages to facilitate business initiatives, IT initiatives and network infrastructure enhancements
  • Facilitate 3rd line support of incidents, requests and problems to agreed service levels and quality standards
  • Act as an escalation path for the Technology Operations team
  • Oversee that the Network team are consistent and accurate when completing tasks and documenting actions
  • Troubleshooting or managing technical issues ensuring all actions are documented
  • Monitor and maintain network elements to ensure a proactive approach
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans, annual testing, and remediation packages
  • Assist with the management of IT asset lifecycles
  • Assist the management of IT licensing and compliance
  • Understand IT strategic objectives and contribute to plans to support these objectives.

 

Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies

Essential

Experience:

  • Proven experience managing a Technical Network team, developing, and managing continuous service improvement, and delivering support
  • Experience monitoring and reviewing SLA’s & OLA’s.
  • Experience in stakeholder management both internal and external.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN.
  • Good understanding of Wi-Fi technologies.
  • Good understanding of fibre deployments and infrastructure
  • Good understanding of segregated networks and VLANS
  • Good understanding of ITIL Change Management processes

 

Qualities and Attitude

  • Strong relationship management and customer focus. 
  • Proven verbal and written communication to all levels of an organisation. 
  • Strong numerical / statistical analysis
  • Possess a firm belief in the values of customer service and ABP’s core values of openness and honesty, teamwork and respect, along with the ambition to make a difference and exceed expectations. 

 

Ideal 

  • Possess a degree in an IT related subject relevant to this post. 
  • Experience of establishing relationships and stakeholder management in complex Operating Models. 

Desirable 

  • Experience of working in ABP or similar industry.
