Role: Engineering Supervisor

Location: Ayr

 

Purpose:

The Engineering Supervisor supports the Engineering Resources Manager to ensure that the Port facilities, plant and equipment meet all current legislation and the operational needs of the business, making sure costs are adhered to as well as achieving high levels of customer service. 

 

To carry out planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, installation, improvements and modifications to plant and port infrastructure in order to maximise performance and maintain equipment to the required standards.

 

Responsible for the delivery of maintenance plans, key performance indicators and the development of continuous improvement in own team’s performance relative to specific functional area.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • To schedule and prioritise daily work activities for Engineering team in area of responsibility and deliver high levels of compliance.
  • To ensure all Health and Safety & Compliance targets and objectives are met and the detail of company safety policies and procedures are maintained to the safest possible working environment for all employees and other Port users.
  • Sustain excellent communications at all levels, operating as the focal point for all information relative to own area of responsibility whilst maintaining an awareness of the whole operation.
  • To develop direct links with customers, ensuring customer service and commercial requests are handled, owned and closed within set timelines.
  • To promote and work to the company core values, ensuring standards are consistently applied amongst the team.
  • Lead by example, setting exemplary standards for behaviour, conduct and addressing performance issues.

 

About you:

 

This is a hands-on maintenance role with supervisory responsibility, with a mechanical background you may be looking to expand on your current team leadership role or feel ready to take a step into a supervisory position. You’ll still want to keep your hands on the tools and be part of a small team delivering reactive and planned maintenance to our Ports in Ayr & Troon. Experience of maintaining hydraulically operated equipment is essential and knowledge of mobile plant is key for this role. You’ll be comfortable with mentoring and coaching engineers, whilst working in a fast paced environment and ensuring customer satisfaction.

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

 

Essential:

  • Minimum HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in maintaining mobile plant and equipment with a bias to hydraulically operated machinery.
  • Frequent climbing and working at height is required. Also ability to use general and specialised diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to cope with fast changing work priorities in a demanding environment.
  • Coverage for Engineering colleagues during holidays.
  • Carry out Engineering breakdown cover as and when required.
  • Willingness to travel to other ABP port locations and business travel UK wide and overseas.
  • Be flexible with time management to suit the challenging operational requirements across the business units.
  • IT skills to include Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Full UK car driving licence.

 

Ideal:

 

  • Health & Safety qualification (ideally IOSH or NEBOSH).
  • Engineering and operational plant licences.
  • Auto electrical experience
