Associated British Ports, the UK's leading port operator, is seeking a talented Data Analyst to join our team, based in Southampton.

 

Associated British Ports is the largest port operator in the UK, handling around one-quarter of the nation's seaborne trade. With a rich history spanning over 100 years, we operate 21 ports across England, Scotland, and Wales, supporting a diverse range of industries, from agriculture to automotive.

 

As a Data Analyst at ABP, you will play a crucial role in unlocking insights from our vast troves of data. Working closely with stakeholders across the organization, you will analyse complex datasets to uncover trends, identify areas for improvement, and inform strategic decision-making. From optimising port operations to enhancing customer experiences, your analyses will drive tangible business outcomes.

 

Accountabilities

  • Collect and analyse large and complex data sets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support business decisions.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and other data visualisation tools to provide stakeholders with easy-to-understand insights.
  • The management of Power BI assets, including reports, dashboards, workspaces, and the underlying datasets that are used in the reports and dashboard.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide solutions to support their use cases.
  • Develop and maintain predictive models to support forecasting and decision-making.
  • Conduct ad-hoc data analysis to support specific business initiatives and projects.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies and trends in the data analytics field and recommend improvements to ABPs data analysis processes.
  • Communicate findings and insights to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner, using both written and verbal communication.

Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies

Essential

  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau and Azure Synapse.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and experience with programming languages such as Python, R, and SAS.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for staying up-to-date with new technologies and trends in the data analytics field.
  • Willingness to travel around the UK, across the Port Estates as required for specific projects

Ideal

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in a data analysis role.
  • Strong client facing / engagement experience
  • Experience with data processing technologies such as Apache Spark and Apache Flink
  • Experience of working in Shipping and Cargo handling, Oil and Gas and Speciality Trade Contract Handling is a preference

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Port or Logistics industry
